Virus writers have created a proof-of-concept virus, dubbed Gattman, that targets an Interactive Disassembler Pro (IDA), a popular reverse engineering tool from Data Rescue, widely used by anti-virus researchers. The malware were authors presumably hoping to embarrass incautious researchers by spreading a virus using the tools of their trade. However, professional anti-virus labs work under strict rules concerning the exchange and handling of executables, so Gattman is more likely to spread among amateur researchers, or malware authors.
